Society Sucks

"That explains your incredibly adorable accent. What do you say we go to the beach or something later?" Xavier's eyes sparkled, enticing Mac.

Mac blushed and said, "I don't know, maybe." Max elbowed him and said, "Dude what about me? We were going to the game tonight!"

"Oh, it's alright. I don't want to disturb you guys," Mac smiled at both of the boys.

"Should we take her?" Xzavier asked Max, "I mean we have one extra ticket because your girlfriend dropped out,"

"Pfft, she didn't drop out. I dumped her," Max rolled his eyes. "She was too pushy."
"Ah, figures. You want to come?" Xzavier turned back to the girl.
"Uh, sure!" Mac grinned and watched the teacher walk into the room to take attendance.
"I'm Xzavier," he held out his hand.
"Mackenzie," she replied, shaking it.

"Max," Max introduced himself shaking her hand also.

"Thank you for stating your names, but I would prefer it if you would just say here when I call them instead," The teacher touched her glasses, amused.
"Yes ma'am," Max muttered sarcastically.

The teacher called out a few names, then called out, "Mackenzie," she quickly added, "Here!"
Which was followed by, "Alexis," nothing. "Alexis?" She added a bit louder. Alexis still had her earbuds in.

Mackenzie tapped the girl behind her on the shoulder. Alexis immediately took her earbuds out and said, "Here!" blushing.

"No music in class," the teacher said strictly said, holding her hand out, "I'll be taking that,"

Alexis looked down at her desk and handed the teacher her iPod, reluctantly.
"You can have this back at the end of the week," the teacher noted, and continued with attendance.

"Week?" She squeaked. She could feel the eyes on her. After a couple names where called, she called, "Xzavier," followed by a "here!"

Alexis sat there, staring at her desk, in shock. It was her first year at this school, and she already lost her music for a week? Small salty tears began to prick her eyes.

To keep from giving a weak impression, she kept her tears in her eyes and put her face in a book.

The lesson droned on, and finally the bell rang for first period. Alexis quickly rose from her seat, and ran out the door, not daring to look up.

Mac got up, just to be followed by Xzavier and Max.

"Wasn't that a bit harsh?" Mac asked the two boys emerging from the classroom.
"Not really. If she wanted to listen to music, she shouldn't have made it so obvious. You turn the volume low and only keep one earbud in," Xzavier explained. "Besides, the freshman are so stupid, they need to be taught how things work around here."

"True that," Max added in. Mac rolled her eyes and laughed.

"Um, I'm not quite sure where I'm supposed to go. Do you know where AP Biology is?" Mac asked the boys.

"Hey that's my next class," Max said. Xzavior said, "Dang, I have English next."

"I guess I'll see you tonight?" Xzavier asked, smirking. 
"I suppose so," Mac smiled, and walked off with Max to their next class.

Mac followed Max to the class. It was a little awkward.

They finally got there, and Mac sat down next to a random stranger.

Max sat down behind her, and waited for class to get over with.

The classes slowly droned on, until it was finally time for lunch.
