"Actually Brent," Colby spoke up. "I'm not feeling too good. I'm going to head home."
"Really? Alright. You want me to hang with you there?" Brent asked.

"I don't know," he whispered.

"Colby, what's this about?" Brent asked, suddenly concerned.

"Nothing," he lied. "Let's just do something."

"Want to hang out at my place?" Brent asked. "We have the day off after all."

"Sure, whatever you want," Colby mumbled, getting up.

As the boys walked home, Brent felt his chest get slightly heavier.
"Alright," Brent sighed, suddenly stopping. "When are you going to stop pouting and tell me what's wrong?"

"I'm not pouting," Colby snapped.

"Well will you tell me what's going on? You've had me worried," Brent sighed, looking at his feet.

"Nothing's wrong," Colby said, "I told you I'm fine, just feeling queezy."

"Maybe I can fix that," Bret murmured, leaning towards his friend slightly.

Colby backed away, slowly turning to face his back to Brent. "Dude, what's wrong? Seriously!" Brent snapped, suddenly offended. "Look," Colby said, "I didn't mean to hurt you,
I just-" Colby cut himself off. After a pause, he finished, "I just don't feel too well."

There was a slight moment of silence. "Do you....do you not feel comfortable with me anymore?" Brent asked, hurt.

"I never said that," Colby said.

"You've been acting squeamish and jumpy all day, you want to go home early, and you backed away from me. You might not have said it, but you meant it." Brent's face was tight, but small drops of water were appearing on the corners of his eyes.

"Look, it's not that," Colby replied, "It's that we are 99.8% likely the first gay couple in kipengele. No one acceps us,"

"I believe in the 0.2%" Brent muttered quietly.
"And why's that?" Colby asked. "It's not like you see them around."
"Have you ever wondered why I live alone with my mother?"

"No," Colby explained, "One time I was at you house and we were like 4 years old, and I asked her why. She said it was because they were always fighting about child care. She never lies, at least to me,"

"Colby, I hope you realized we were four. And child care? My dad wanted me to live with him. Away from Kipengele, without my powers. With his boyfriend. He thought my mom wouldn't have enough money without him." Brent's voice cracked slightly as he spoke.

"I hope you realize that you just said 'not in kipengele' therefore meaning he's not in kipengele, also meaning WE ARE STILL THE FIRST!" Colby said.

"I also hope you realize before he left my mom they WERE in Kipengele, and moved out so he wouldn't have to see my mom. So they were at one time IN Kipengele, meaning we aren't the first! Dammit Colby, do you get I never wanted to tell you? My mom would find out. I didn't want to go through what my mom had to when she learned her husband didn't love her anymore."

Colby face palmed. "No Brent, YOU are the one who doesn't get what I am trying to say!"

"Then tell me, please. Just tell me." Brent finally broke down. The tears he was biting back spilled from his eyes, and he sat on the ground, turning and sobbing away from his boyfriend.
