"Brent baby, you can tell me anything," his mother murmured softly, touching his back.

Brent just sobbed. Part of him wanted to tell her, the the other pay wanted to keep it to himself.

"M-mom, you're going to hate me," Brent whimpered, his pillow almost damp with tears.

"I would never hate you," she said. Brent was still crying, and still deciding whether to tell her or not.

"I-I'm gay." Those two words emerged from Brent's mouth, choked, and soft. "I'm so sorry mom. I'm so sorry," he wept.

"That's nothing to be ashamed of," she said. To his surprise, she accepted him. She continued, "it's your decision!"

"It's not just that," he sobbed. "Colby...I wish he would've said no to me. Instead we dated for a day, until he told me he was scared of getting teased. And that he was bullied before and called gay because I was his only friend," The whole story spilled out, and Brent's mother patiently listened.

"Honey," she tried to say, to calm him, but the story just kept coming.

"And I know dad left you because he was gay and I didn't want to hurt you," Brent gasped for air, finishing the story, still in tears.

"That wouldn't hurt me," she said smoothing, stroking his hair.

"Really?" he sniffed, and his mom nodded.

Brent smiled and hugged her (I'm stuck)

"I was supportive of your dad too. I just wanted to keep you," his mom explained. "Although I'm sorry about the whole Colby situation. He's your best friend after all."
"I know," Brent sighed.

"I remember that night his mother called me saying that he was in the hospital," she sighed. Brent looked at her confused.

"You never told me?" Brent felt like salt was being rubbed on an open wound.
"I didn't want to upset you," his mom sighed.

"When was this?" He raised his voice, mad and hurt.

"About four years ago."
"Before he became a Bender..." Brent trailed off.

"Exactly," his mom said, "wait what?"

"Colby. He's been a Bender for four years," Brent explained. "You didn't know?"

"I did, I'm wondering how you knew about the suicide attempt,"

"You brought it up, and he told me when I was getting the rest of the bullshit about us dating. He said we're the first gay couple in Kipengele and we'll get teased."
"You guys are far from the first," his mom said casually.

"That's what I said," Brent said sobbing.

"Honey look. Colby may have said he was bi, but that also means he likes girls. He was probably really nervous and didn't want to get made fun of again. I'm really sorry, when things like this happen someone always get's bit in the ass," she sighed, rubbing his back.

He cried and cried.

Brent finally cried himself to sleep, and his mom left the room.
